Boots are a very important part of a rider's equipment. If the boots have good protection and not imitation protection, they should protect your toes, heel, sole and both sides of the ankle. There are two types of protection: internal protection and internal protection combined with external protection. You can see what the outer protection looks like (it is usually plastic) in photo 1. The inner guard is usually not visible - you need to feel it (see photo 2). Therefore, we always advise you to inspect your shoes before you buy them, feel all the areas mentioned and then make your decision. Many people think that a higher price means more safety. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Therefore, make sure you have a good look at your shoes before you buy them. Take a good look at the places mentioned. For example, the surface of the shoe must be absolutely still when you apply pressure in the toe area.
A common criterion for choosing moto boots is whether they are long or short. Each type of moto shoe has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Long moto boots: advantages
The biggest advantage of long moto boots is that they are safer. Long moto boots can be designed for Superbike / Touring / Dual Sport / Motocross or Custom-style motorcycles. Almost all long moto boots have a front shin guard, which short moto boots do not. Long moto boots are also always more comfortable if it's freezing or raining outside. Because these moto boots are longer, they will cover more of your leg when you sit on the bike and bend your legs over your knees. This is important because, even at 90-100km/h, every centimetre makes a difference as wind and rain penetrate through the smallest holes. This advantage is especially important for taller riders, because when the legs are bent, the trousers ride up even more (see photo 3), although the length of the moto trousers looks quite good before you get on the bike.
Short moto boots: advantages
The biggest advantage of short moto boots is that they are more comfortable. The comfort is due to the fact that these moto boots are lighter and do not have shin protection. These two characteristics make it much more comfortable to switch rails, apply the brakes and, of course, just walk off the bike. Many riders also think that with short moto boots it will not be so hot in summer. They are partly right. But if you want to keep cooler in summer, then by all means don't buy short moto boots with a membrane (especially a cheap one) against water and wind. It is best to buy perforated, t.y., with holes, moto boots (see photo 4). However, summer moto boots with full perforations are already available in long lengths (see photo 5). This gives you the protection of a long moto boot with the thermoregulation of a short moto boot.
Disadvantages
I have mentioned the main advantages of long and short moto boots. Well, the disadvantages are probably as obvious as anyone. Long moto boots are less comfortable and have less thermoregulation on a hot summer day (although not always). And the disadvantages of short moto boots are their lower level of safety and less comfort when riding when it is cold or raining.
Finally
Of course, there are more smaller, less fundamental differences. But we'll tell you about them live when you visit our stores.
